Logic in the Study Editor
The new editor supports several types of logic to control how participants move through your screener — show, hide, skip, qualify, and automate based on how someone answers. All logic is configured from the Logic section in the left settings panel.

Qualifying Logic ✅
Toggle Qualifying logic on to mark a question as a qualifier. Participant answers can then route them to a Qualified or Disqualified ending. Toggle it off to remove qualifying logic from that question.
Skip Logic
Routes participants to a different question based on their answer, skipping questions in between. You’ll see this labeled as Skip logic in the editor UI.
- Select a question in the canvas
- Under Logic in the left panel, click Skip logic
- Click + Add rule
- Set the condition — e.g., if the answer is Apples
- Set where to skip to — e.g., Skip to G2 Apples questions
- Add more rules for other answers as needed, then click Save
Each rule has an Exclusive checkbox — click “what this means?” in the editor for details.
Display Logic
Shows or hides a question based on a condition. If the condition isn’t met, the question is skipped automatically.
- Select a question in the canvas
- Under Logic in the left panel, click Display logic
- Click + Condition to add a rule and set your conditions
- Click Save
Use + Group to combine multiple conditions. Use Reset to clear and start over.
📋 Groups
Groups nest multiple questions together under a single label. They are useful for organizing related questions and applying logic at the group level, such as routing a skip logic rule to an entire group of questions at once.
To create a group, click + Add content and select Group of questions. Then use + Add content inside the group to add questions to it. The group label is not shown to participants.
Groups with skip logic are automatically pinned to their own page. See Managing Page Breaks for more on locked page breaks.
Personalization 💬
Personalization lets you pipe a participant’s previous answer into a later question. For example: “You mentioned you use [their answer] — how often do you use it?” This makes screeners feel more conversational and relevant.
Note: Personalization naming and options are being updated. Wording in the editor may change as this feature develops.
Logic flow
Click the Logic flow tab at the top right of the editor to see a visual map of your entire screener. Each question and group appears as a node, with branching arrows showing how participants are routed. At the bottom you’ll see your three endings: Regular, Qualified, and Disqualified.

Pool Automation Triggers
Connect a participant’s answer to an automated action in your Pool. Click Pool automation triggers in the left panel to configure. Shows “Not set” until configured.
⚠️ Common logic pitfalls to avoid
❌ Overusing skip logic
Too many branches make surveys hard to maintain and analyze.
❌ Circular logic
Creating loops where participants can't progress.
❌ Forgetting edge cases
Not accounting for "Prefer not to answer" or skipped questions.
❌ No default path
Always have a fallback for unexpected answers.
A few things to keep in mind
- All logic is set from the left panel, not from the Logic flow tab. Select a question in the Content tab to access its logic settings.
- Qualifying logic, skip logic, and display logic can coexist on different questions in the same screener. Plan your flow in the Logic flow tab before publishing to catch any gaps.
- Groups with skip logic create locked page breaks. The logic needs to evaluate all responses in the group before routing the participant, so the group is pinned to its own page.
- The Reset button in display logic clears all conditions on that question. Use it carefully if you need to rebuild a rule from scratch.
