Screener & Study Templates
Want more control over how your team creates screeners and studies in Ethnio? You can now create your own official templates in Ethnio on all plans this week by Sep 6th✨. Please note there are no pre-made templates as most of you already have your own detailed templates and workflows.
Where you'll see templates
There are two big places you'll notice templates – the first place is under screeners > overview > templates on the top left above folders (or studies > overview if you're using the studies beta):
The second place you'll notice them is when you or a team member create a new screener or study:
How do I start?
For account owners and admins, if you already have existing screeners or studies that are being used as templates, quickly convert any of them to official templates by heading to any screener or study and then click the ⋮ context menu > create template from
That will instantly create a template that you can now have much more control over how your team uses. There's nothing wrong with continuing to use existing screeners or studies as templates, but you might want to try the templates out because of new permissions options.
The other option is to head to Templates > Create New Template and start from scratch. Then head to permissions to setup how your team can use the templates, which brings us to...
Permissions & guard rails
If you manage a large team in Ethnio, the most important thing about the new templates is that team members are not allowed to create new templates by default. You can of course enable this from team member > permissions > allow creating new templates:
Again, admins and owners can create templates, but the most popular use of templates is in the updated Guard Rails - after you create a few templates, you might want to uncheck "existing studies" and only force team members to create from templates, existing studies/screeners, or either:
Folders
If any team member creates a new screener or study from a template, they can then move that new screener or study to any folder they like. Since the permissions of templates are now their own universe, you don't have to worry about anyone accidentally creating multiple templates in the same folder, or creating screeners/studies from a template in the wrong folder.
There are not currently folders for templates, but that's on the roadmap. Has anyone even read this far? If so, nicely done. Drop help@ethn.io an email with subject "details champion" and we'll come up with a special gift for you. Hint: it's chocolate. The gift is chocolate.
Did we miss something about templates? We'd love to hear from you.
