Target Intercepts with Embedded Data
Target web or app intercepts using embedded data (previously called Custom Targeting) lets you control who sees an intercept based on information your system already tracks about visitors or customers.
Embedded Data targeting applies only to web and app intercepts. It does not apply to direct study links.
Add Embedded Data targeting
Go to Studies › Publish › Targeting, then select + Add Targeting › Embedded Data.
Add the parameter your system will send to Ethnio, followed by the possible values you want to target. You can then choose which values should or should not display the intercept.
Example
Imagine your system tracks whether a customer purchased an apple or an orange. By passing that information to the Ethnio code, you could display an intercept only to customers who purchased an orange. For example: fruit_purchases=orange
When Ethnio receives that parameter and value, it checks your targeting rules and decides whether to display the intercept.
You can send multiple parameters by separating them with an ampersand (& ): fruit_purchases=orange&membership=premium
Target multiple values
Within Ethnio, you can:
- Add multiple parameters and values
- Choose which values should display the intercept
- Add participant-friendly URL values and clearer, user-friendly labels in Ethnio
- Decide how unexpected values should be handled
Note: If every listed value and Unexpected values are selected, the parameter will not filter your audience because every value is eligible to see the intercept.
Exclude missing or unexpected values
To limit the intercept to only the values you’ve defined, leave Unexpected values untargeted. This prevents the intercept from displaying when Ethnio receives a value that isn’t listed, or when the expected value is missing.
