Permanent CC emails for participants in Pool 📧
Permanent CC is a feature in Pool that lets you CC a secondary email address on every Pool email and Study Invite sent from Ethnio to a participant. It's useful for situations where a participant wants a guardian, assistant, or second inbox to always receive copies of your outreach.
Scheduling confirmation emails and incentive emails will not include the Permanent CC address — only Pool emails and Study Invites.
How It Works
When a participant has a Permanent CC (AKA PCC, just FYI) email set, Ethnio will automatically include that address in the CC field of Pool emails and Study Invites. You don't need to do anything extra when sending — it just works in the background. 🙌
If a participant has no Permanent CC email set, nothing changes about how their emails are sent.
How to add a permanent CC: Upload only
You can set Permanent CC emails in bulk via any standard Pool upload method — including XLSX, CSV, Google Sheets, or the API.
To do this, include a column in your upload with the Permanent CC email values and map it to the pcc_email field. Here's how to confirm the mapping is set up correctly:
- Go to Pool → Data → Attributes
- Search for "Permanent CC"
- Click into the attribute and confirm that
pcc_emailappears under the Mapping section - If it's not mapped yet, type
pcc_emailin the mapping field and click Add New
Once the mapping is in place, any upload that includes a pcc_email column will automatically set or update the Permanent CC email for matched participants. 📥
⚡ Smart Attribute: Always Updates to Latest Value
The Permanent CC attribute is a Smart Attribute, which means it's configured to always update to the latest value on upload. If you upload a new Permanent CC email for a participant who already has one, it will be overwritten with the new value — not appended.
This makes it easy to keep Permanent CC emails current across your pool without worrying about stale data accumulating.
Viewing Permanent CC Emails
On a Participant Profile
If a participant has a Permanent CC email set, it will appear on their profile under the Permanent CC section (labeled with a "New" badge while the feature is in preview). If no Permanent CC email exists, this section won't be displayed on the profile.

FAQs
Does the participant see that they're being CC'd? The CC appears naturally in the email header, just like any standard CC — so yes, they can see it.
Can a participant have a Groups CC and a Permanent CC in the same email? Yes, they can.
What types of emails does it apply to? Pool emails and Study Invites only. Scheduling and incentive emails are excluded.
