Managing bounced emails & email reputation for Pool emails
There are key statistics as part of your large-scale emailing from Pool in Ethnio that are important to manage.
Bounced emails
Anytime an email fails to accept delivery from Ethnio, we receive a bounce notification. This can happen for a variety of reasons but most commonly the email was a typo or has been deleted. Sometimes an inbox can be full. Either way, too many bounces can really ruin the reputation of your organization emailing through Ethnio, or Ethnio's dedicated sending IPs. That is why we opt out or tag all bounced emails from pool automatically.
💡 tldr on bounced emails: If you delete opt outs automatically as part of your data retention, you might want to change the bounced email behavior to tag. This will ensure your bounced emails don't get deleted.
Two ways to handle bounced emails
The account owner can choose how to handle bounced emails. The default ops out automatically any bounced email, so that they won't receive future study invites or Pool emails.
There is another option which will only add a tag to bounced emails, and that can be ideal if you want to delete participants automatically as part of your data retention policy in Ethnio:
Opt outs
If too many people opt out to every study invite or Pool email you send, it can be a sign you're not emailing the right people.
Complaints
This is the absolute worst-case scenario. We can only accept .01% complaint rate in aggregate, so if more than that are complaining about your Ethnio study invites or Pool emails, your email capabilities could be eventually restricted or disabled.
