Key Elements 🗝️
The Key Elements section is the heart of your Study Plan, defining essential details like the type of research, location, moderation style, and duration. Most importantly, this is where you select features to include in your study, shaping how your research experience looks in Ethnio.
What are the key elements?
These are the core components of your study:
- Study type (e.g., 1:1 Interviews, Survey, Focus Group, etc.)
- Stage (New, In Progress, Completed, etc.)
- Facilitation (Moderated or Unmoderated)
- Location type (In-person, Remote, or Field)
- Publishing method (Intercept, Study Link, or Both)
📝 Screener will be in...
This choice let's you send participants to another tool for screening if you don't wish to use Ethnio. In some cases, there are integrations to have screener responses automatically sent back to Ethnio, like from Qualtrics or Surveymonkey. But mostly changing this dropdown does these two things:
- Populate the 3rd Party URL field which you then have to define rules for who is redirected to that tool
- Also puts the URL in Welcome Page > Options if you want to redirect everyone to that tool.
🔌 Integrations vs 3rd Party URLs
You can send participants to any tool in your study, and the only difference with tools that have integrations is that we can automatically get responses back from those tools. A common use of this dropdown is to schedule people in Ethnio, but also send them to a survey tool like Qualtrics for a more in-depth survey.
The power of "Include in this study" 💪
This section lets you customize exactly what you need for each study. Check off items to include tools and features, and you'll see these automatically added to your left navigation. For example:
- Screener – Ask participants questions before scheduling
- Consent – Manage participant consent forms
- Incentives – Handle participant payments
- Scheduling – Organize your calendar invites and sessions
- Localization – Support for multiple languages
- Upload Participants – via XLSX, G Sheet, or CSV (Enterprise only)
- Study Invite – Email segments of your participant pool (Enterprise only)
- Group Communication – Manage email groups easily (Enterprise only)
Special note about study type
There can be changes to what's included in your study based on the study type you select. For instance:
- Compensation Only: Simplifies to primarily managing Incentives.
- 1:1 Interviews: Typically includes Screener, Consent, Scheduling, Incentives, and more.
Choosing fewer elements streamlines your experience, while selecting more provides greater functionality and flexibility. You control the complexity based on your needs!
